Committees of Volunteers

GET THE JOB DONE!

FAMILY SELECTION COMMITTEE: receives and reviews applications for Habitat housing, checking applicants’ conformance to Habitat’s selection criteria, credit history and ability and willingness to become a homeowner partner with Habitat for Humanity. Visits applicant and recommends to the Board of Directors. Meets monthly. Rev. Herman Pride, Chair.

LOT ACQUISITION COMMITTEE: searches for suitable building lots for Habitat house construction, researches title information and recommends appropriate action to Habitat’s Board of Directors. Meets as needed. Ben Slade, Chair.

FAMILY SUPPORT COMMITTEE: nurtures new homeowners, providing education and advice regarding home maintenance, predatory lender, and household budgeting issues and offering fellowship opportunities for Habitat families. Meets regularly. Venus Holmes, Chair.

HOUSE SPONSORSHIPS COMMITTEE: provides information to develop partnerships with churches, businesses, civic groups and individuals that financially underwrite Habitat for Humanity houses.

CHURCH RELATIONS COMMITTEE: develops and maintains partnerships with congregations to promote the mission ministry of Habitat for Humanity with prayer, volunteer and financial support of Habitat’s work. Tom Hoffacker, Chair.

VOLUNTEER SUPPORT COMMITTEE: promotes volunteer opportunities, coordinates hospitality at work sites and helps to develop volunteer recognition.

SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE: develops and directs special fundraising events and occasions of celebration.

“HOME STORE” DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: recommends to the Board of Directors the location and scope of operation, management and financial requirements of a retail store that receives contributions of new and reusable home improvement commodities, building materials, appliances, and furniture to be sold at a discounted price to the public, the proceeds being applied to Habitat’s operations to enable more houses to be built. Starling Sutton, Chair.

FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: directs the Board of Directors in the establishment of an annual budget for operations, recommends fiscal policy consistent with an annual independent audit and Habitat International affiliation and develops financial support for Habitat’s operations and program.

PROMOTION COMMITTEE: helps interpret to the community the mission and work of Habitat for Humanity through news media, a regularly published newsletter, updated brochures, creating and maintaining a website and supporting use of public speaking opportunities.
